To the people who read her blog and attended her church, Amanda C. Riley was a beautiful, young wife and mother who managed to live her life with hope and faith even as she was dying of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
But who was the real Amanda?
The story of how this beguiling woman deceived and betrayed countless supporters, including many of her closest friends, is so compelling, Charlie Webster’s 2023 “Scamanda” was the most downloaded and shared podcast, world-wide, on Apple that year, since sparking a 2025 Hulu docuseries.
In Part 1 of this fascinating podcast, we first introduce you to the carefully-crafted persona Amanda showed to the world, then take you behind the scenes to meet the real Amanda C. Riley. Join us as we walk through the events that led to one of the most infamous and morally unethical scams ever documented… and ultimately resulted in a first-ever case of its kind for the FBI.

As a special treat, each week in August, while Candy and Ashley are on break, they are releasing a minisode, bonus content usually reserved for their friends on Patreon or Buy Me a Coffee. While the last three episodes have been previously released, this week’s episode is brand new! If you listened to our episode on “Unforgiven,” you heard us ask for a super-fan to come talk to us about their love for this movie. We’re thrilled to say that, immediately after the episode aired, we found our fan. Join us for this delightful conversation with our guest, filmmaker Jefferson Moore, as we discuss “Unforgiven,” “Tombstone,” and “True Grit.”
You can also listen (and follow!) the show on your favorite podcast app or the Scandal Water Podcast YouTube channel.
And after listening, if you have a hankering to listen to the rest of the Scandal Water bonus catalog, simply become a member through BuyMeaCoffee or Patreon. You can find the link to both at the website ScandalWaterPodcast.com.

Season 5 begins in September, but rather than going dark during August, we thought we’d offer you a peek behind the scenes by sharing one of the perks usually reserved for our Patreon and Buy Me a Coffee Members. In this minisode, we make it personal, discussing all manner of disasters from real-life Good Samaritan videos to our own brushes with natural events, and the disaster movies we’ll never watch (and why). If you’d like to listen to the rest of our catalog, consider becoming a member through BuyMeaCoffee or Patreon. You can find the link to both on our website: ScandalWaterPodcast.com. Cheers!

Season 5 begins in September, but rather than going dark during August, we thought we’d offer you a peek behind the scenes by sharing one of the perks usually reserved for our Patreon and Buy Me a Coffee Members. For 12 seasons, the charming but shrewd Jessica Fletcher kept her lovely hometown of Cabot Cove safe, despite the bodies piling up around her like firewood. In this fun minisode, we discuss one of Ashley’s favorite things, the series “Murder, She Wrote” starring Angela Lansbury, after rewatching the pilot episode.

In our very first mini-sode, Candy and Ashley spill the tea on one of Marilyn Monroe's most famous photos, the publicity still taken by her friend Sam during a publicity stunt for "The Seven Year Itch." And in a twist worthy of six-degrees of Kevin Bacon, Ashley calls Brian so he can recount a time in his community theatre past when he very well may have been sharing the stage with (long retired from Hollywood) Tom Ewell! As an added bonus, tune in after the Cheers to hear a blooper from the full "Famous Photographs" episode that aired January 30th. Thanks for supporting Scandal Water and enjoy this bonus cuppa tea! “Isn’t it delicious?!”If you’d like to listen to the rest of our catalog, consider becoming a member through BuyMeaCoffee or Patreon. In this lively update episode, Candy and Ashley spill the tea about new developments that occurred after their season 4 episodes aired.
What exciting new projects are in the works for Alicia Silverstone, Kimberly Williams Paisley, and the “Little House on the Prairie” franchise? How is the Biltmore connected to King Tut? What circumstances led to Candy’s brief encounter with a relative of Nate Bargatze? How did “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” bring in 9.2 billion social media views in a year? And what happy development has been reported by one of Ruby Franke’s children?
We discuss all this and more, including a surprise gift from friend Kathy related to the “Dark Highway” murder case, and an update from friends Jennifer and Rocky about their trip to London, Kentucky, to help with tornado clean-up efforts.
And after you enjoy this extra splash of tea, we have another special treat in store! Each week in August we will release a minisode that has never before been made available on the main feed. (Minisodes are shorter, bonus episodes usually available only to our supporters on Patreon or Buy Me a Coffee.) Then we’ll be back with new episodes in September as we start Season 5!

Roughly 100 years ago, in Oklahoma, dozens of Osage people were murdered in cold blood in an attempt to steal their wealth and land. That horrific period of time is referred to as the Reign of Terror and is the focus of the true crime book “Killers of the Flower Moon” by David Grann.
In this fascinating episode we compare the 2017 nonfiction book with the 2023 movie, also called “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Though different in approach, both center around an Osage woman named Mollie Kyle whose family was systematically killed in the early 1920s.
What photograph inspired David Grann to write the best-selling book? How did speaking with Mollie’s granddaughter inspire Martin Scorsese to change the film’s script? In what ways does the movie differ from the book? And what happened to Mollie, Ernest, and Bill Hale after the trials?
We hope you will join us as we discuss not only these two acclaimed works, but also this important historical occurrence of which many people still remain unaware.

When just a glimpse of the famous gunslingers’ silhouette or the phrase “I’m your huckleberry” immediately transports you to the world of “Tombstone” (1993), it’s a pretty sure sign the film is a classic.
Featuring a star-studded cast, “Tombstone” is now widely regarded as one of the all-time best Westerns… which is even more impressive considering the massive obstacles the cast and crew faced during filming!
Why was the original director fired a month into the shoot? How did Kurt Russell save the movie, according to some of his fellow actors? What strategies did Val Kilmer use to bring his iconic Doc Holliday to life? And how accurately did “Tombstone” portray the actual characters and events depicted in the film?
You’re a daisy if you join us for this nostalgic episode! Listen (and follow!) on your favorite app or Scandal Water Podcast Youtube channel.

The gritty, dark revisionist Western “Unforgiven” is not only widely regarded as one of Clint Eastwood’s greatest works– as both actor and director– but is also one of only 4 Westerns to ever win an Oscar for Best Picture.
Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at this classic film, including a brief tribute to legendary Gene Hackman, whose portrayal of ruthless sheriff Little Bill Daggett also earned him an Oscar.
What movies inspired David Peoples as he was writing the script? Why did Gene Hackman initially turn down the role of Little Bill? How does “Unforgiven” have a feminist thread in it, according to Clint Eastwood? And what’s the story behind two alternate endings that were filmed, but then discarded?
You’ll have a hard time forgiving yourself if you miss this fascinating episode! Listen (and follow!) on your favorite app or Scandal Water Podcast Youtube channel.
