The Tragic Story of Ann Gotlib, Louisville’s Oldest Missing Person’s Case
This episode of Scandal Water contains adult themes and descriptions of violence. Listener discretion is advised.
On her very first day of summer vacation, June 1st of 1983, a bright 12-year-old girl with freckles and curly red hair said goodbye to a friend and rode off on her bike alone to travel the short remaining distance to her home.
She never made it.
To this day, the disappearance of Ann Gotlib, whose bike was found leaning against a pillar outside the Bashford Manor Shopping Center, remains Louisville’s oldest missing person’s case. And yet, police consider the case closed.
This month we return to a focus on local true crime stories with the theme “In Our Own Backyard… Again.” And in this episode we walk through the perplexing case of Ann Gotlib’s kidnapping– a tragedy that not only touched an entire community, but also led to some of the important child protection services we have today.
